From getting shot to getting the shot
"I got into fashion completely by fluke," said Anthony. "I know myself. I wouldn't have picked the hardest type of photography [...] by choice."
This 29 y.o. fashion photographer has worked for renowned brands including Parasuco and Levis, and has been published in such magazines as Flare, Bello Magazine, and he's appeared twice in the fashion magazine Zink.
Born in Montreal from Italian parents, Anthony spent the first 10 years of his life living in Italy and Miami. During these formative years, he began exploring his creative side through painting and drawing, just like his mother, who is also an artist.
Once he began high school, Anthony started designing logos and cool cards for his friends and classmates. However, after graduating, he joined his father in the United States and studied law enforcement.
At that point, nothing indicated that he would one day shoot models for a living...until the day he got shot...with a gun that is. At this turning point in his career, Anthony returned to Montreal and began to work in graphic design, but even then he had no professional interest in photography.
One day, while he attended a wedding, Anthony experimented with a borrowed "prosumer" level camera for the first time. This immediately motivated him to buy his own camera. Soon enough, he got hired by a friend to take pictures for a restaurant.
"It was my first job, my first contract, and I took it way too seriously," said Anthony. He began to get small gigs, mostly for model portfolios. Once he started getting hired by prominent companies, like Parasuco and Levis, he left graphic design and pursued photography full time.
"The hardest thing in this industry is to guarantee yourself work," said Anthony "it was just a matter of time before things became more steady."
The fashion industry moves at a great speed, but so does this photographer. According to Anthony, his ability to evolve and adapt to each project distinguishes him from other photographers, allowing him to provide the client not only what they want, but also what best suits them.
Montreal's fashion photography market is small but rapidly expanding, said Anthony. "I try and do my part by helping local designers", he added.
